GPT-6 Sol is the middle model of OpenAI’s GPT-6 family, released on 22 September 2026 alongside GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI positions it as the faster, more affordable option below GPT-6 Astra for difficult everyday work, and says it makes about half as many factual mistakes as GPT-5.6 Sol on its internal factuality evaluation.
API pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 output — half GPT-5.6 Sol’s $4 / $20 — with cached input at $0.20. Per OpenAI’s developer documentation it accepts text and images, has a 1,050,000-token context window and up to 128,000 output tokens, a knowledge cutoff of 20 April 2026, and reasoning effort settings from none to max. In ChatGPT it is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users.
