What is Kling AI?
Kling AI is an AI video and image generator made by Kuaishou Technology, a content community and social platform company listed in Hong Kong. You type a prompt, or upload images and clips, and Kling’s models turn them into short videos with synchronized sound. It runs on the web at kling.ai and in mobile and desktop apps, and developers can call the same models through Kling’s API or third-party platforms such as fal.
In its results for the second quarter of 2026, Kuaishou reported Kling AI revenue of over RMB 850 million, up more than 200% year on year.
Kuaishou is also moving Kling into its own company, a restructuring it first announced on 12 May 2026. In a Hong Kong stock exchange filing on 2 July 2026, it said Beijing Kling, a subsidiary expected to hold the Kling AI business, would take in outside investment of up to RMB 20,447.10 million (USD 3,000 million) at a pre-transaction valuation of USD 15 billion. If that limit and the staff share schemes are fully used, Kuaishou’s stake falls from 100% to about 68.33%. The filing also ties the deal to a listing: among other triggers, investors can make Beijing Kling buy back their stakes if it has not completed an initial public offering by an agreed date or 30 October 2031, whichever is earlier.

What can Kling AI make?
Kling is mainly a video tool, but it makes images too. From Kling’s release notes and guides:
- Video with sound from text or images. Kling 4.0 generates the picture and two-channel stereo audio in one pass, including lip-synced dialogue in languages such as English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
- Long, multi-shot takes. One Kling 4.0 generation runs 3 to 30 seconds (default 10), and multi-shot is on by default, so the model can split a generation into several shots.
- Keyframe control. Pin up to 10 keyframe images to fix specific moments, or use first and last frames.
- Omni Reference. Combine up to 15 reference assets in one generation: up to 10 images, 5 videos (30 seconds in total) and 7 saved “elements” such as characters or products, which can carry a voice.
- Video editing. Change expressions, movement, camera angle, background or style in an existing clip while the rest of the scene stays stable.
- Images. The Kling Image 3.0 series, rolled out on 31 January 2026, outputs images directly at 2K or 4K.
- Motion Control. Recreate complex movement and facial expressions from a reference performance with Kling’s motion-capture tool (launched 4 March 2026 on Kling 3.0).
- Agents and automation. A Canvas Agent plans storyboards, and Kling’s MCP server and command-line tool support Kling 4.0 for batch jobs.

Kling 4.0: the current flagship
Kling 4.0 rolled out to all users on 15 October 2026. Its headline change was length: Kling 3.0 topped out at 15 seconds per generation, and Kling 4.0 doubled that to 30. Kling also pitches steadier motion and camera moves, better lip sync, legible on-screen text, prompts of up to 8,000 tokens and a 21:9 widescreen format. Two features were still marked “coming soon” in Kling’s notes: 10-bit HDR output at 1080p and 4K, and extending a video several times up to two minutes.
Kling 4.0 Flash: the faster, cheaper variant
Flash makes 3- to 20-second clips at 720p with Omni Reference, but does not currently support first-and-last frames or multiple keyframes. Kling’s guide recommends it for fast iteration and short-form clips, and Kling 4.0 for longer or sharper videos and keyframe control.
Kling 3.0, 3.0 Omni and 3.0 Turbo
Kling 3.0 brought multi-shot storytelling, 15-second clips and upgraded native audio with dialogue in Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. VIDEO 2.6 became VIDEO 3.0, and VIDEO O1 became VIDEO 3.0 Omni, the version built for references and editing. In April 2026 Kling added native 4K output, which it calls a world first for an AI video model, and in June it added the faster Kling 3.0 Turbo. Kling 3.0 is still on sale and is cheaper per second than Kling 4.0 through the API.
Is Kling AI free?
Yes, Kling AI has a free plan, but it works as a trial rather than a production tool. The Basic plan costs $0, and Kling’s plan page says non-subscribers get “Monthly Free Credits” claimed at login each month and valid for 31 days. Kling does not print the size of that allowance on the plans page, so check your balance after signing in.
The free plan’s limits, from Kling’s plan comparison and credits policy:
- 720p only. 1080p and 4K video are subscriber features.
- Watermarked output. Watermark removal is a paid benefit.
- No commercial use. Kling grants commercial rights to paid subscribers only.
- One video per generation (paid plans can make four at once) and no fast-track queue.
- No daily bonus credits. Kling’s daily login credits are a subscriber perk.
If a generation fails, Kling refunds the credits, and it occasionally runs campaigns that hand out extra free credits. To compare free tiers across the market, see our best free AI video generators.
Kling AI pricing: every plan in November 2026
Kling sells monthly and yearly subscriptions in US dollars on its membership page. Monthly plans show a discounted first month, then a recurring price below the crossed-out list price. These are the prices shown in November 2026.
| Plan | First month | Monthly after that (list) | Yearly (list) | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $0 | $0 | $0 | Monthly free credits (amount shown after login) |
| Standard | $6.99 | $8.80 ($10) | $79.20 ($120) | 660 |
| Pro | $25.99 | $32.56 ($37) | $293.04 ($444) | 3,000 |
| Premier (18,000-credit option) | $144.99 | $181.99 ($207) | $1,639.99 ($2,484) | 18,000 (8,000, 28,000 and 38,000 sizes also offered) |
| Ultra+ | $432.99 | $544.99 ($619) | $4,902.99 ($7,428) | 57,000 |
Every paid plan adds 1080p and 4K video, watermark removal, commercial use, a fast-track queue and unlimited queued tasks. Pro and above add priority access to new features. Kling’s older Ultra plan is closed to new subscribers; existing Ultra members keep their benefits.
How far do credits go? Kling deducts credits based on the model, duration, resolution and number of outputs, and its credits policy says the deduction follows what the app displays at the time. It publishes no per-clip credit table, so none is quoted here. Three rules from Kling’s plans FAQ and credits policy matter:
- Monthly plan credits expire after 31 days, and unused ones are lost when a subscription ends.
- Top-up credits cost $1 for 66 credits at Kling’s standard rate and stay valid for two years.
- Credits with the shortest validity are spent first.
Kling API pricing
Developers can buy Kling directly or through an aggregator. Both bill per second of video, and in November 2026 they lined up closely.
Kling’s own API (Kling developer pricing) charges in prepaid units. Kling 4.0 costs 1 unit per second at 720p and 1.5 units at 1080p; Kling 4.0 Flash costs 0.6 units per second at 720p. These two need “Flagship” packs: a $10 trial pack holds 64 units for 30 days ($9 on a first purchase), and 180-day packs start at $500 (list $510) for 3,250 units, about $0.157 a unit at list price. The Kling 3.0 family and Kling’s other tools use separate “General” packs; the 180-day ones list at $0.14 per unit.
Through fal, prices are quoted in dollars:
| Model (fal) | Price per second | 10-second clip |
|---|---|---|
| Kling 4.0, 720p / 1080p | $0.157 / $0.235 | $1.57 / $2.35 |
| Kling 4.0 Flash, 720p | $0.094 | $0.94 |
| Kling 3.0 Turbo, Standard / Pro | $0.112 / $0.14 | $1.12 / $1.40 |
| Kling 3.0 Standard, audio off / on | $0.084 / $0.126 | $0.84 / $1.26 |
| Kling 3.0 Pro, audio off / on | $0.112 / $0.168 | $1.12 / $1.68 |
| Kling 3.0 4K | $0.42 | $4.20 |
| Kling 2.5 Turbo Pro | $0.35 for 5 seconds, then $0.07 per extra second | $0.70 |
The routes agree: Kling 3.0 at 0.6 units × $0.14 is $0.084 per second, fal’s Kling 3.0 Standard rate, and one Kling 4.0 unit at about $0.157 matches fal’s $0.157. A full 30-second Kling 4.0 take at 720p costs $4.71 on fal. If you feed Kling 4.0 a video to edit or reference, both bill a lower rate ($0.094 per second at 720p on fal) on the combined input and output length, at least twice the output.
These are prices per successful generation; a usable shot often takes several attempts. Our AI video generation pricing guide compares them with Google, MiniMax, Wan and Seedance, and the AI API cost calculator helps you budget a batch.
Kling vs Veo, Runway and Hailuo
A short comparison on published specs; the verdicts are our editorial judgement.
| Tool | Longest single generation | Top resolution | Native sound |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kling 4.0 | 30 seconds | 4K in the Kling app; 1080p via API | Yes, stereo |
| Google Veo 3.1 | 8 seconds (4, 6 or 8) | 4K | Yes |
| MiniMax H3 (Hailuo AI) | 15 seconds | 2K | Yes, stereo |
Kling vs Veo. Google’s Veo 3.1 is generally available on Google Cloud, makes 4-, 6- or 8-second clips with sound and reaches 4K on its standard tier. Kling 4.0’s clear advantage is length: one 30-second take replaces several stitched Veo clips. Veo 3.1 can extend a clip on Google Cloud, while Kling’s two-minute extension is still marked coming soon. Veo mainly suits teams already working inside Google Cloud.
Kling vs Runway. Runway is less a rival than another way to use Kling. Its paid plans, from $15 a month or $12 a month billed annually for 625 credits, include Kling 4.0 alongside Runway’s own Gen-4.5, and in November 2026 Runway’s pricing page advertised 25% off Kling 4.0 generations until 30 November. See how to use Runway.
Kling vs Hailuo. MiniMax’s H3, announced on 31 July 2026 and offered on its Hailuo AI site, generates up to 15 seconds at 2K with native stereo sound. Both take image and video references; Kling 4.0 runs twice as long per generation and accepts up to 10 keyframes. For the older Hailuo 2.3, read our Kling 4.0 vs Hailuo 2.3 comparison.
Tips for getting more out of Kling
- Draft on Flash, finish on 4.0. Flash is cheaper per second (0.6 units against 1.0 on Kling’s API) and faster; switch to Kling 4.0 when you need keyframes or 1080p and above.
- Set the duration on purpose. Kling 4.0 defaults to 10 seconds and cost scales with length.
- Pick one entry point per job. Kling’s guide says Omni Reference and Keyframes cannot be combined in one generation: use references for characters and products, keyframes to lock specific moments.
- Write the shot list into the prompt. With up to 8,000 tokens, spell out camera moves, timing, dialogue and spoken language.
- Save reusable elements. A saved character or product helps keep faces, outfits and logos consistent across clips.
- Pay before you publish commercially. Only paid plans carry commercial rights and remove the watermark.
